Get inspired... and learn to learn!
When you start a business, you need to learn, first. This is especially true when the business is a startup because it is innovative and risky. Moreover, you don't want just to start; you want to create solid basis for growth! You need do be inspired, but also coached. You want someone who encourages you to follow your dream, but also someone who brings you to the reality and help you learning from failures.
I will offer a FREE mentoring session to selected startups in Switzerland, Italy, UK and France. We will meet first and we will explore if there is a common interest and if we get along well. Decision of being mentored must be taken by both sides. Why I don't charge anything for this? Because I believe that I will learn a lot from a startup team and the best rewards for my contribution is gratitude. If things go well, we might envisage negotiating either a consulting contract, a seat in the advisory board or some equity share. But this should not be decided beforehand.
Let's make it clearer: we will start with Mentoring first, and possibly continue with Coaching or Consulting. Here are the definitions of Mentoring, Coaching and Consulting (at least from my perspective):
Mentoring: A Startup Mentor inspires people and encourages them to pursue their endeavors. As a Mentor, I will listen to your ideas, issues, doubts, worries, pains, deceptions, and successes (which we will celebrate together). I will also share my experience with you and provide access to my large professional network when appropriate. Since I am associating myself to the startup team, it is important that I believe in the startup idea. This is not a professional consulting contract. It is based on mutual trust and engagement. Only on these basis, mentorship can be effective.
Coaching: A Business Coach support people in achieving specific objectives following an agreed methodology. As a Lean Startup coach I will help you in difficult phases of your journey towards product-market fit and I will help you in setting up the metrics that matter to your business. When faced with the naked reality, I will support you in making the most reasonable choice by adopting an external perspective. Moreover, I will challenge you until you will provide me with all the proofs needed to justify your decisions. Like a personal trainer, I will push you to work hard. This relationship can only work if you trust your coach and believe that he/she acting for your only good. The coaching service will be regulated by a formal contract with hourly or daily fees. There will be a formal business relationship with clear terms.
Consulting: as a Business Consultant I will provide expertise in a specific subject and help you in finding the solutions to your problem. I will brainstorm with you and assess the feasibility of your project providing guidance in its management. The consulting service will be regulated by a formal contract with hourly or daily fees. There will be a formal business relationship with clear terms.
